Greetings Educators,
The Institute for Humane Education is excited to announce the opening of enrollment for the October Cohort with the Mid-Atlantic Solutionaries Project.  Applications will be open until September 30th.
The purpose of the Mid-Atlantic Solutionaries Project is to educate teachers to support students in becoming lifelong watershed stewards through experiencing an inquiry-to-action Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) that results in taking action to address a problem related to water quality.

Through the project, participating teachers will receive training and support to design standards-aligned inquiry-to-action units that incorporate the Solutionary Framework and MWEE best practices.  Teachers who complete the course and submit an approved project plan will receive their Solutionary Micro-credential from the Institute for Humane Education. If you choose to complete the activities for Project WILD and Aquatic WILD, and incorporate at least 2 WILD activities into the design of your unit, you will also receive certification in both WILD curricula, including free books and use of these materials.

This opportunity is specifically designed for VA middle and high school science teachers.

Science teachers tell us it is even better when you take the course with a colleague!  That way, you have a thought partner and someone to assist with both the active learning and the taking action components. Consider inviting another science or an English, social studies, art, or special education teacher at your school, or invite a community environmental educator from a supporting agency like Soil and Water Conservation, 4-H, or a local non-profit to take the course with you. If you are applying with a colleague, ONE of you needs to be a middle or high school science teacher.

By participating in the Mid-Atlantic Solutionaries Project, teachers will:

1)    Learn how to design a water quality inquiry-to-action project with students that lead to action using the Solutionary Framework

2)    Become part of a supportive learning community of environmental educators across Virginia.

3)    Earn the Solutionary Micro-credential and certifications in Project WILD and Aquatic WILD. Optional: CEUs from Antioch University for a small fee.

4)    Educate students to be solutionary watershed stewards.
