This position is responsible for promoting, coordinating, facilitating, implementing, monitoring and improving local government policies, programs and initiatives that encourage local environmental, energy, economic and social sustainability. Primary responsibilities include writing for and editing the City’s website, working regularly with the new content management system, writing publications and miscellaneous environmental communications materials and working with all forms of media, including government access cable television, to promote the Green Bowie environmental message. The Sustainability Planner also serves as project manager for the City’s Urban Greening Cost-Share Program and energy audit incentive program, initiatives designed to encourage homeowners to plant trees on their property and make energy efficiency improvements to their homes. This position will interact daily with the general public including residents, businesspersons, and elected and appointed officials at many levels of government.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in sustainability, green building, energy efficiency, regulatory compliance, environmental science, environmental studies, environmental engineering or natural resource management.
Minimum of five years of professional, relevant work experience in the sustainability field.
