Recently developed, our WRA tool was designed to evaluate the risk potential of plants prior to U.S. introduction and plants that have recently established in the U.S. Thus, you can think of it as a predictive screening tool. But it could also be used to help managers prioritize weed species for management. The platform for the tool is a MS Excel workbook. On the main worksheet, the analyst answers a series of mostly yes/no questions about the species: status elsewhere in the world; reproductive, life history, and dispersal traits; persistence attributes; and impacts in agricultural, natural, and anthropogenic areas. The analyst also enters their uncertainty for each question (negligible, low, moderate, high, or maximum), and the supporting evidence for their answer. Currently, the PPQ WRA has three components that help users (managers, scientists, horticulturalists, etc.) evaluate weed risk potential.
