This narrative describes a conceptual plan for creating a train the trainer program intended to educate a small army of actively engaged citizens motivated to rally meaningful community participation in the restoration necessary to reduce the effective imperviousness of privately owned lands. The program goals are to recruit and train a Master Watershed Steward representing each community throughout our County. The Academy offers a number of unique features, most significant is a partnership with the Master Watershed Stewards that includes significant involvement of the County Department of Public Works who manage the County’s Watershed and Ecosystem Services Division as well as the County capital improvement program in cooperation with the County Board of Education’s Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center. The Center will provide the training facilities and employ the Academy Coordinator who will be responsible for curriculum development and delivery.
