Position Summary
The Development Manager plays a central role in supporting Potomac Conservancy’s fundraising
success. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, this position ensures accurate gift
processing, donor stewardship, data integrity, reporting, contractor coordination, and operational
support for fundraising initiatives. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and
enjoys building systems and processes that help a mission-driven team succeed.
Regular in-office time is required to support gift processing, correspondence, and administrative
coordination.
Potomac Conservancy is a nationally accredited land trust and clean water leader working to
restore and protect the Potomac River for the six million people who depend on it. With the support
of more than 42,000 advocates and donors, we protect natural lands, restore habitat, and advance
policies that improve water quality and climate resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Gift Processing & Stewardship (40%)
- Process and record charitable gifts in EveryAction.
- Reconcile bank deposits and maintain gift documentation.
- Prepare and send timely donor acknowledgment letters.
- Generate monthly fundraising and gift reports.
- Coordinate with Finance to ensure accurate revenue reporting.
Development Operations & Contractor Management (30%)
- Manage relationships with direct mail, digital fundraising, and event vendors.
- Coordinate project timelines, meetings, deliverables, and follow-up.
- Ensure projects stay on schedule and stakeholders remain informed.
- Support donor event logistics.
Data Management & Reporting (20%)
- Maintain donor database integrity and quality assurance processes.
- Support team-wide use of EveryAction and moves-management tracking.
- Analyze fundraising performance and donor trends.
- Produce reports that support strategic decision-making.
Additional Support (10%)
- Assist with prospect research and wealth screening.
- Coordinate board and committee meeting logistics.
- Prepare prospect and donor materials for development strategy discussions.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in fundraising operations, nonprofit administration, finance, or data management.
- Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
- Experience with CRMs, databases, Excel, and financial or charitable reporting tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in environmental conservation or public interest work is a plus.
