The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) is the leading environmental science and education center of the Smithsonian Institution. SERC is also a convening facility with conference spaces and seven visitor cottages for overnight visitors, as well as two dorms for resident research interns and fellows. There are 130 staff in five departments: Scientific Research, Public Engagement and Education, Administration, Communications, Advancement. The Human Resources Liaison (Management and Program Analyst) position is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties and assignments for specified functional or organizational responsibilities in the context of SERC’s primary research and education programs in environmental sciences. The incumbent reports to the SERC Executive Officer and provides administrative support and assistance to the SERC Directorate and other SERC staff in performing a wide variety of program administration functions, including serving as liaison between the SERC supervisors and central Smithsonian Office of Human Resources; providing human resources (HR) services to SERC staff and Directorate; and assisting with general administrative functions.
