About You

My Background:

Born and raised in Montgomery County, MD Agricultural Reserve on a working farm and spent many years raising and showing livestock in the 4-H Program. I am a member of The Maryland Farm Bureau's Young Farmers organization. I have a BS in Business Administration from Mount Saint Mary's University, a Certificate of Agricultural Business Management from The University of Maryland, Institute of Applied Agriculture, and am a Fellow in Class VII of the LEAD Maryland Foundation program for agriculture and natural resources. As an undergrad I was a student leader for an outdoor experiential education program that led other college students on wilderness trips involving backpacking, caving, climbing, canoeing/kayaking, etc. which really helped develop my love of Nature and my desire to work professionally to conserve it.

My Work History:

I began environmental restoration work while an undergraduate at The Mount when I began working as a Field Technician/Wetland Delineator for Wetland Science Applications. Soon after graduating, I began working with Patriot Land and Wildlife Management Services, Inc. (www.PatriotLWM.com) as a Project Manager. The multi-faceted company is designed to handle tasks ranging from wetland mitigation, ecological restoration and aquatics management, to wildlife control and habitat enhancement. We have the ability to complete a tree mitigation project, and in the same turn, design a quality deer management program to ensure tree protection and survival, then turn around the next day and solve aquatic issues on the same property. Our field of expertise is very broad and we consider ourselves a "one-stop shop for land and wildlife management needs," meaning we can do it all.

Our clients include private landowners, homeowners associations, conservation groups, and government agencies among others. I am a licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator through MDA (1-A Agricultural Plant, 3-A Ornamental, 3-C Turf, 5 Aquatic, 7-A General Pest, 7-C Wildlife, 7-D Rodent), a licensed Wildlife Damage Control Operator through MD DNR, and a Stormwater Facility Maintenance Contractor through Montgomery County DEP. We are also a licensed Deer Cooperator through MD DNR.

We have developed our niche through community based deer management solutions to address the growing deer/human conflicts in the urban fringe. We manage wildlife programs on over 5000 acres of agricultural ground in Montgomery and Frederick Counties and have helped design and implement deer donation programs that have fed thousands in the Capital DC area. I am also a founding member and Secretary of the Western Chesapeake Watershed Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association, a non-profit conservation organization promoting healthy deer herd populations, activities, and education in our area of Maryland.

My most exciting work to date includes my involvement in the design and installation of BioHaven Floating Treatment Wetlands, an innovative bioremediation technology that has huge implications within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and beyond. The habitat creation and water quality improvement potential of BioHavens has, and will continue to involve me in many fun and exciting projects in the future.
