About You

I serve as Assistant Superintendent for the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay Office. In particular, I manage the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and guide the NPS role in carrying out the Chesapeake Treasured Landscape Initiative. Prior to this I was the Program Manager for Chesapeake NEMO, a partnership among a number of organizations and agencies helping local communities foster well-planned growth, preserve water quality and protect natural areas (www.chesapeakenemo.net). Before that, I led the National Park Service's development and management of the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network, a partnership among 150 plus parks, refuges, maritime museums, water trails, historic sites, etc (www.baygateways.net). During most of the 1990s, I served as Executive Director of the Columbia River Gorge Commission in Oregon and Washington. Earlier, I managed and led planning for national parks and heritage areas in the mid-atlantic states.

I grew up in Kentucky and upstate NY, and then graduated from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana (BA, biology major) and the University of Pennsylvania (Masters of Regional Planning). I've lived and worked in Montana, Colorado, Philadelphia and Washington State and now reside in Annapolis Maryland.

My professional interests include: planning, land conservation, civic engagement, group facilitation, communication, design, heritage conservation and tourism, and local agriculture.
