About You

I cut and pasted from a brief bio … sorry if it sounds too much like a resume!

My Background:

British by birth, and a US citizen since July 2000, I have been a resident in the USA since March 1st, 1978.

After 17 years in Houston, my wife, Cynthia, and I relocated to her parents’ farm outside Port Deposit in September 1994, where we have a small vineyard, cut hay, keep bees & chickens and maintain our woodlands and wildflower meadows as wildlife habitats and streamside buffers.

My Work History:

I am a fast learner with broad experience, as evidenced by my transition through five distinct career branches within Conoco and DuPont during a 30-year employment.  These include Oil & Gas Exploration; Oil and Gas Drilling and Production; Information Technology (IT) in Conoco; IT in DuPont; Business Consulting in DuPont and in Fluoroproducts, one of its business units.·  Work experience in UK, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Far East, USA, Canada and Mexico.· Capable of independent contribution, teamwork &/or workgroup leadership & management.

I'm now retired  J Community Service:  I have served on the Cecil County Economic Development Commission since 2001, and am a member of its Special Projects Committee.    Through my work on the EDC, I’ve joined the Board of the Fair Hill International.  A geologist by training, I’m actively engaged in watershed protection.  I am currently chair of the Upper Western Shore Tributary Team and a member of the CBF-sponsored MD Watershed Network, a board member of the Octoraro Watershed Association, the MD sampler for the Octoraro Nitrate Task Force and a volunteer with DNR’s Stream Waders Program.   I’m secretary of the Cecil Land Use Alliance and chair of the Water Resources subcommittee for the 2010 Cecil County Comprehensive Plan.

In addition, I have used my consulting, facilitation, presentation and meeting management skills to assist several local groups:  Facilitated the Fair Hill Races Committee in their planning for the 2005 Race Meeting and Fair Hill International in their planning for 2006; Guided the Cecil Land Trust in the development of their Long Range Strategy and Work plans; Facilitated Chesapeake Fields in a strategic planning session for their webStation; Served as the meeting resource for a local citizens’ group, the Partnership for Cecil County, moderating/facilitating two “standing room only” land use / growth forums for residents and local officials at the Cecil Community College.

My Interests:

Travel; Bee-keeping; Timberframing (Scribe & Square Rule); Bowl turning; Finding the right balance between clearing & mowing and the maintaining/restoring the natural landscape – what my father-in-law described as "fighting back nature – gently"
