Eric Kelly aka Mangy White Bushman has been an avid naturalist and outdoorsman since he was "knee high to a short, fat billy goat". Choosing to spend most of his childhood in the forest, ponds and streams in Baltimore county Eric learned to interpret nature by intuition.
Eric began cultivating a small, 3 acre farm in 2008, but by misfortune of a vehicle accident was not able to financially keep up the farm or remain on the property. Shortly after his recover Eric packed up several field guides and gear and attempted his first through hike of the Appalachian Trail with his dog Fritz. While on the trail Eric chose his next directions in life. When he returned to Baltimore Eric started the group Foragers of Baltimore and went into business for himself, Charm City Farms, LLC.
Eric is now a Master Gardener, Master Naturalist, Permaculture Design Certified, Project Wild Certified, Landscape for Life Trainer, Beekeeper, Baltimore Treekeeper Certified, Maryland Community Naturalist, Second degree brown belt in Kenpo and has completed a 60 hour course on composting from the US Compost Counsel as well as numerous other short courses. Eric instructs classes on foraging, plant uses, holistic orchardry, SPIN farming, composting, worm farming, grafting, beekeeping, mycology, bushcraft & primitive skills, bow making, deer hide tanning, permaculture and many more. Eric also does permaculture consultation & design and is often assisted by his one and half year old son Everett James Kelly.
